Forbes.com today reports on the “year of reckoning” for brick-and-mortar stores. In this prescient article, the author cites a source saying that online shopping has increased 99% since 2006, a trend that will continue to grow for various reasons, choice and the perception of security among those mentioned.
The trend toward online vs. in-person shopping could be viewed as a menace to the heavy investment made in New Hampshire’s retail commercial property, however our sales-tax-free shopping provides a barrier to a dramatic drop-off in sales. New Hampshire’s sales-tax-free shopping may inoculate the state against the tide of internet shopping; yet another new facet of the “New Hampshire Advantage.”
